Can you suggest home remedies to get rid of dark elbows and knees?

Question: Can you suggest home remedies to get rid of dark elbows and knees?

Answer: Excessive dryness and friction may lead to darkening of elbows and knees. At home, you can use a mixture of chickpea flour and malai as a scrub over the affected areas. Coconut milk is a natural moisturizer. Apply  the milk, leave on for a while before you bath, and wash off with water. You should apply a good moisturizer that contains coconut milk or cocoa or shea butter. At bedtime, you could apply a 6 per cent glycolic acid based cream on the affected ares. Do this for about six to eight weeks. You could try a few sessions of diamond and phenol peels .

MAKE UP SHAKE-UP

Question: This sweltering heat makes it difficult for any make-up to last. Can you please share some tips to make make up melt-proof?

Answer: You will constantly sweat in the hot and humid months and there is no better option than adapting accordingly. Foundation is best avoided unless your job or lifestyle calls for more time spent  indoors and minimal or no sweating. In such a case you can apply a light coat to smoothen out skin tone. But if life for you means hours spent in and out of office or home and a lot of time outdoors then the maximum you should use is a tinted moisturizer. To look fresh and well-groomed through the heat, We suggest you lightly dust on some translucent powder. A touch of waterproof kajal or liner and mascara will keep your eyes looking beautifully made-up without streaking.

You can also add in some creamy blush for a healthy glow. Keep a moisturizing lipstick handy it will help you sail through every  season and condition. But if you want a more natural look, a single swipe of gloss is all you need with touch-ups through the day. If you’re a girl constantly on the move, then carry a stick or tub of lip balm – A great way to keep lips hydrated and soft.

I have nails that are brittle and break easily

Question: I have nails that are brittle and break easily. I AM A COMPANY EXECUTIVE AND FEEL VERY CONSCIOUS ABOUT THIS, ESPESCIALLY AS I AM OTHERWISE WELL GROOMED. HOW CAN I STRENGTHEN MY NAILS?

Answer: Women’s nails are more brittle and more likely to break than men’s. This may be due to a medical problem. Also, excessive exposure to cleaning agents and frequent use of nail polish removers damage the keratin, reducing the water content of the nail, therefore making them brittle. The use of a phospholipid containing cream after each wash will help control fragility. It has been noticed that a regular intake of biotin and a high protein diet definitely helps. Acrylic nails can be used as a temporary measure till your own nails strengthen.

I have a few problems with my nails.

Question:

I have a few problems with my nails. The nail polish I use, after a manicure tends to chip and flake very quickly. Please tell me how to deal with this. Also, when I do not have any nail polish remover handy, is there some way of removing old nail polish? I tried turpentine, but it played havoc with my nails.

Answer:

You should always apply two coats of polish for longer stay-on colour. Give the nails one coat, wait till it dries perfectly, then apply the second coat. Ensure your brush strokes are even, and there are no bubbles or lumps on the nail surface. There is one more tip. Apply a coat of clear nail polish when the second polish coat dries. You should apply this clear nail polish every two days, and pay special attention to the edges of the nails where the chipping always starts. Do not use harsh chemicals like acetone or turpentine to remove nail polish. You can apply a thin layer of clear polish and rub this off firmly with cotton wool. This will remove the underlying nail colour too.

Which lipstick colours should i use?

Question:

My lips are very big. Often I get teased as the woman with duck lips. How can I make them appear smaller? Are there any colours I should stay away from?

Answer:

Avoid pop lipstick colours like coral or bright pinks. Mask the entire lip area with foundation that’s a shade darker than your own skin colour, and blend well. Use a deep brown lip pencil to create a faux lip line inside the natural lip line, and then add a lip tint or stain in a deep wine or dark rose. Skip lip gloss altogether. Deeper lip tints will help play down the fullness.
